Brains Before Nuts.

If you don't know an Ace from a King or you have played for years, this site is for you.

RAZZ

If you know how to play Seven Card Stud High Low then you also know how to play Razz but you might not know it yet. Razz is the name given to Seven Card Stud when played for the Low side only. With the Ace counting as low and the best hand being Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5. Flushes and Straights do not count against you. In other words if your best 5 low cards end up being 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 of diamonds your hand is not discounted for having a straight flush. You simply have a Deuce through Six Low.The dealing and betting structure is exactly like Seven Card Stud, except that the highest face up card goes first or is the 'bring in'. The highest face up card in this game is the King not the Ace. Below is and example of a Razz hand, what the player started with, what they ended up with, and which five out of seven cards they used in the end.

EXAMPLE HAND

Your View.

Opponent's View

All the dealing rounds in Razz are identical to Seven Card Stud. Three cards are dealt at first, but the highest goes first or brings in. (The King is the highest upcard in this game, not the Ace.)

Opponent's view after the next four cards are dealt. Your hand looks identical to a Seven Card Stud hand.

From your point of view you see all seven cards and must make the best five low cards you can, with the Ace counting as the lowest card just as in Seven Card Stud High Low.

The best 5 Low Cards for this player in best to worse order are:

Ace, 4, 6, 8, 9.

So he ended up with a 9 Low.
